Prescribe where you document
Prescribers finish their notes, then open a second system to send prescriptions. JotRx puts the prescription in the same chart.
Every prescriber's day used to include the same extra step. The session ends. The note gets written. Then the prescriber opens a separate e-prescribing system, logs in again, finds the patient again, and sends the prescription. Two systems, two logins, one patient looked up twice.
Prescribers asked us for one thing, consistently: e-prescribing in the same chart as the note. JotRx is JotPsych's e-prescribing module, built on DoseSpot. It opens from the same patient chart the prescriber is already working in, over single sign-on: no separate username or password to enter. The DoseSpot prescribing screen itself automatically opens a new browser tab, and users can proceed with their prescribing.
How it works
Finish the note in your patient's chart. The prescriber records and documents the visit in JotPsych, the same as any other session.
Click Prescribe. A patient already set up in DoseSpot goes straight into the DoseSpot prescribing screen over single sign-on. A patient not yet set up prompts JotPsych for the missing details first, then continues into DoseSpot the same way.
Send the prescription in DoseSpot. It goes to the pharmacy from there. Prescription history and status stay inside DoseSpot; a notification in JotPsych still flags anything that needs attention: a failed send, or a refill or change request from the pharmacy.
Controlled substances
Controlled-substance prescribing, EPCS (electronic prescribing of controlled substances), carries extra requirements. Before a prescriber can send a prescription for a Schedule II-V medication, DoseSpot requires identity proofing, verifying who the prescriber is, and two-factor authentication. Both are required by DEA regulations. That setup happens once, not during a session. Once it is done, sending a controlled-substance prescription works the same as sending any other.
Minutes saved per week
JotPsych estimates 2 to 4 minutes saved per prescribing event, from skipping the duplicate patient lookup and switching systems. The bars below use the midpoint of that range, 3 minutes, at two illustrative weekly volumes.
