PDMP checks in the chart
PDMP stands for prescription drug monitoring program, the state database that logs every controlled-substance prescription a patient has already filled. JotPsych puts the confirmation that a prescriber checked it in the same screen where the note gets signed.
Every state now runs a PDMP. Missouri, the last holdout, activated its statewide program on December 13, 2023, completing coverage across all 50 states. Most states require a prescriber to check the database before writing certain controlled-substance prescriptions, and to document that the check happened. Behavioral health prescribers hit this often: stimulants for ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder), benzodiazepines for anxiety and insomnia, and, less often, opioids are all controlled substances a PDMP tracks.

The tab-switching problem
The database lives outside the EHR. A prescriber normally leaves the chart, logs into the state's PDMP portal on a separate site, looks up the patient, reads the report, then comes back to finish the note. A second step follows: writing down, somewhere, that the check happened. This is the step that gets skipped.
What JotPsych does
JotPsych does not query the state database for the prescriber. Each state runs its own system, and JotPsych does not connect to any of them. What JotPsych does is put the confirmation in the note itself. Whenever a patient is attached to the encounter, both the sign-note screen and the session's billing details show a "PDMP Reviewed" toggle. Click to confirm, and it records that prescription monitoring has been verified at the moment the note is signed, alongside the rest of the visit's documentation.
One less place to remember
A PDMP check that lives only in a prescriber's memory is a liability the day a chart gets reviewed. A PDMP check recorded in the note is already there.
