As of its 2026 pricing restructure, that free tier caps the AI editing and template-customization features most regular users rely on at 10 uses a month; unlocking them requires the paid Clinician plan.²

JotPsych was built for behavioral health, and the note is one piece of a larger system. JotRx, JotPsych's e-prescribing module, writes prescriptions in-product and supports electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) for Schedule II through V medications, the category covering stimulants and many psychiatric drugs, with the two-factor authentication the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requires. Patients book their own appointments through a public scheduling page. Telehealth visits run inside JotPsych, no separate video tool required. JotBill submits insurance claims to a clearinghouse and scrubs them for structural errors first. JotCred collects credentialing documents and routes a completed application to an internal team that manages payer applications. JotAudit checks whether the signed note supports the CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) code billed and whether the visit meets payer-specific documentation rules.

Where Heidi genuinely fits

Heidi's range is the widest of any tool in this comparison, spanning human and veterinary medicine across several countries, with compliance pages for the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the EU (European Union).¹ A multi-disciplinary clinic, or a clinician who wants a free tier to try ambient documentation before paying for anything, has a genuine reason to start there. The coding and CDI tools are also a real, if general, step toward catching documentation gaps before they cost revenue.

Where the gap shows up

Mental health is one specialty on a long list that also includes dentistry and veterinary care; Heidi's site does not describe behavioral-health-specific templates, DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition) documentation, or psychiatric medication workflows. Nor does it describe e-prescribing, patient self-scheduling, telehealth, claim submission, or credentialing. A general CDI check is also not the same as an audit built around behavioral-health payer rules specifically, the difference between a broad revenue check and one that knows what a psychotherapy add-on code requires.

Heidi's breadth is genuine, and its free tier is a fair way to test ambient documentation at no cost. For a practice that runs entirely on behavioral health, prescribes controlled substances, schedules patients, and bills insurance, the question is whether a general tool covering seven other fields, plus a general revenue check, does the specific job as well as a platform built around only this one.
